How do I wash my horse’s face?
For many horses, getting their face washed is part of their regular bath routine. If your horse is not comfortable with getting his face washed, here are a couple ways of getting their co-operation.
First, I suggest using baby shampoo for the face. If the soap burns their eyes when you wash their face, they are less likely to be cooperative. I buy the generic kind from the dollar store.
Did you wear your helmet today?
Supporters of Courtney King-Dye have created an Ebay page to raise awareness of the dangers of riding without a helmet. Courtney was a top dressage rider and member of the 2008 US Olympic Team. She was seriously injured recently when her horse stumbled, throwing her and knocking her unconscious.
The site was created with some great merchandise donated by friends and supporters as well as Courtney’s Corporate sponsors. T-Shirts, awareness bracelets, boots and helmets are a few of the items that are offered. Log on and help the cause and this young rider……and wear your helmet!
Congratulations to Smoky Mountain 4H Team!
Angie Chandler of Rune Stone Ranch reports that the Cocke County, Tennessee 4-H group had a wonderful first show. The team consisted of 11 Kids, 13 Horses, 8 Trailers, and lots of supporters. They participated in Gaited, Hunter, and Western classes and had a great time at the show. Their dedication is showing!
Happy Tails!
Daily Maintenance
- If possible, keep the tail put up in a sock or wrap to protect the hair and keep it clean
- Take the tail down every 2 weeks and wash, dry thoroughly and then re-braid and put it back in the sock or wrap.
- An old tube sock works great on tails, split the top down about 4 inches from the top, then use 2 of them to tie the sock into the braid.
